Did you know Sayre has a greenhouse on the roof!? You can see it from the ground, on the southwest corner of the building. It was built in the 1990s but hasn’t been used for years. Last Saturday, the FFO organized a small group (only a small group can fit!) of parents, teachers, and community members to prepare the greenhouse for instructional use. As you can see in the photos, the greenhouse is in pretty good shape, the plumbing and heat still works, and on Sunday we got one of the two automatic window motors working and repaired all the decaying window screens, as well as taking inventory of various supplies. After a good overall scrub-down, it’s all looking pretty good!
Teachers Mr. Charmelo and Ms. Moore are working on a plan to incorporate the greenhouse into the school science curriculum and possibly extra-curricular activities, we’ll hopefully have more news on that soon! Thanks everyone for your help and support.
