Sayre Language Academy will hold a Local School Council candidate forum this Thursday, March 20, at 6pm in the auditorium. Parents, staff, and the community are all encouraged to attend, and also to vote in the LSC election on Monday April 7th (also Parent/Teacher Conference Day). More info from CPS.
(Also remember, Sayre Family and Friends Organization elections will take place at the FFO meeting the Tuesday night following the LSC elections)
This month’s FFO meeting has been moved to Thursday evening (Feb 13) at 6pm at the school, directly preceding the regularly-scheduled Local School Council meeting.
The FFO will be discussing Spirit Week and other events. Please bring and share your ideas!
Speaking of the LSC, Local School Council elections are coming up on April 7 (also Parent-Teacher Conference day). If you’re interested in an LSC position, applications are due (in person) to the Office of LSC Relations, 125 S. Clark St., Suite 502, by next Wednesday, February 14, or to the school directly by Wednesday, February 26. Most schools are facing a shortage of applicants, while that’s not usually a problem at Sayre, we’d all like to see a variety of candidates running and offering a variety of choices, right? More info on positions, requirements, and the application process are right here.
After Ms. Ustabecir outlined the proposed new budget at the parent meeting last Tuesday, the Sayre LSC approved it at a special meeting Thursday night. According to LSC member Jennifer O’Connor, letters will be included stating the LSC does not agree with CPS’ budget cuts. The letters are addressed to Chandra James (Interim Chief of Schools of Austin North-Lawndale Network), Ms. Barbara Byrd-Bennett (Chief Executive Officer) and David Vitale (CPS School Board President).
Sayre parent Naima McDermott and others are organizing a parent/community letter-writing effort, look for volunteers on Monday after school for more information. If you can help draft the letter or volunteer on Monday, please contact Naima at 973-207-8974 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or join the meeting at the North Avenue Starbucks this Saturday (June 22) at 5pm.
Another parent meeting is being discussed, we’ll post more info here as we get it. Please join the discussion and get up-to-date info at the Sayre FFO Yahoogroup.
