The Sayre LSC have asked us to share this statement, following their special meeting on January 5, 2015:
January 8, 2016
To the community of Sayre Language Academy:
In response to growing concern about student safety and teacher turnover, the LSC held a special meeting on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. That meeting included an executive session with Randel Josserand who is the CPS Chief of Network 3. An executive session is, by law, closed to the public, so Council members are unable to give specific details to the Sayre community. Executive sessions can be held to protect the legal rights of individuals, including personnel or private student matters. In the session, the LSC addressed areas of concerns with Chief Josserand that had been raised in earlier public forums. First, with regard to student safety, the Chief outlined some of the problems and the strategies that his team are in the midst of implementing to improve them. Second, with regard to personnel issues, Chief Josserand outlined the concerns within the building and options for improving them. While we are not permitted to provide detail, be certain that the Network staff is working closely with the school’s administration and teachers to understand current problems and improve the learning environment for our students, staff, and teachers. Your LSC representatives are closely monitoring these efforts to best support the school and students.
The next scheduled LSC meeting is Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 6:30pm in the gymnasium. At that time, we will be addressing the general concerns that have been raised. While certain matters must remain confidential by law, we believe that we will be able to provide more clarity at this meeting. The voices of parents, family members, teachers and all supporters of Sayre Language Academy are important! We thank you for sharing your concerns and for advocating for all Sayre students.
