Sayre Language Academy will hold a Local School Council candidate forum this Thursday, March 20, at 6pm in the auditorium. Parents, staff, and the community are all encouraged to attend, and also to vote in the LSC election on Monday April 7th (also Parent/Teacher Conference Day). More info from CPS.
(Also remember, Sayre Family and Friends Organization elections will take place at the FFO meeting the Tuesday night following the LSC elections)
CPS announced Tuesday that Sayre Language Academy will be one of 25 Chicago public elementary schools to implement CPS’ new technology curriculum next fall.
The new curriculum promises to “elevate computer science to a core subject”, incorporate computer science lessons into elementary math and science courses, and “partner with Code.org, Google, and other technology leaders,” to “increase the quality of and access to computer science and coding classes.”
Thanks to all the friends and families who have supported Sayre so far this year! See what we’ve accomplished:
- Our Shop and Share events were well attended (and delicious)! Sayre friends and families donated $282.27 by enjoying a meal together. This year’s FFO proceeds will help support Teacher Appreciation Day, entertainment at International Night, and extra fun during Field Day.
- Our most recent Box Tops for Education deposit will bring the school $160.60. Snip those tops and send them to the office! Thanks to Denise Graziano for coordinating this ongoing project.
Check out our fundraising page for more information about our fundraising programs.
Mark your calendars for the Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, April 26, from 9am to 1pm.
Please come to our next FFO meeting on Tues. April 8th. We’ll be having nominations and elections for our officers of the board.
Our monthly FFO meeting will be held tonight, March 11, 2013, 6pm, at the school. If you are interested in running for an FFO board member position for the 2014/15 school year, please attend this month and next month. Nominations will be accepted at both meetings and the election will be held at the April meeting.*
A description of FFO positions (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Communications) can be found here.
The FFO is a relatively small commitment and a great way to get involved with the school and bridge the gap between the school, parents, and community. Help make that bridge stronger! Even if you’re not interested in an officer position, there are lots of ways to get involved.
The April FFO meeting (and election) is scheduled for April 8, but may be changed, we will confirm any changes here and on the mailing list as soon as possible.
* Don’t confuse the FFO (Family and Friends Organization) election (tentatively April 8) with the LSC (Local School Council) elections (on April 7, report card pickup day). Please be sure to participate in both elections, both serve a very important purpose, and remember that the LSC application deadline has been extended to March 14.
